April 2022

  • The Easter Eggsercise fundraising effort so far has raised £395.00. A big thank you to the six children who demonstrated the school values of Community and Love to give up their time over the Easter holidays to support the School. A special certificate of recognition was received to these children, Charlie, Rufus, Polly, Theo J, Tom VH, Annabel VH, Poppy, Penny O, Isla O and Jakey. If anyone has any outstanding sponsorship money to hand in please do so by Friday 6th May.

  • This term’s PTFA meeting took place this week. Thank you to all the members who attended with their enthusiasm, support for the school and future fundraising ideas. Tobi Parkin is now officially the Vice Chair of the PTFA. Jo Johnson, The Treasurer, would like to share with you all the current finances and recent commitments- ‘£2170.48 was a roll over from last year’s fund. So far this year £350 has been donated to the school to help subsidise the cost of school trips. £497 has been raised by the weekly ‘It’s a Friday Thing’ project, Bags to School and the Christmas Market. Currently, the bank balance total is £2667.48’. Moving forward, the PTFA would like to support the development of the playground area by looking to raise a target of £2000 to help fit new fencing and artificially turf out an area of the playground which currently is cordoned off and out of bounds due to being deemed unsafe. The PTFA are launching their Easter 'Exercise-A-Thon’ again this year. Over the Easter holidays we are hoping to help raise this target amount. The children have brought home the details about how they can get involved, be active and raise some money. There will be prizes available for all entries and some special awards for special achievements. Please take part, if you can. As ever, if you would like to join and support the PTFA please get in touch via ptfa@swimbridge-primary.org

  • If you would like to take part in the ‘Easter-Eggersice-Eggstravaganza’, and need a sponsor form, please see below.

Our next event.......

Our next big event will be on Saturday 30th April, as we join the Swimbridge Community to celebrate the Grand Opening of Swimbridge Park. This is going to be an event worth attending, whether that be as a helper or a participant. Please see the attached poster for details. Please share these with friends and family, the more the merrier.

The PTFA will be running a number of stalls, and we are looking for volunteers to help throughout the day: are you free to help set up, are you free for an hour during the day, are you free to help tidy away? Even if you can only help out for half an hour it would be greatly appreciated. We are also looking to borrow gazebos, in case the April showers decide to make an appearance.

If you are able to help out at all before, during or after, or have a gazebo we can borrow on the day, please let us know@ ptfa@swimbridge-priamry.org

Easter wishes

PTFA

What is a Parent Teacher Association (PTA)?

Most schools have a PTA and here at Swimbridge we also like to include friends of our school, therefore we are known as the PTFA: Parent, Teacher & Friends Association. We are an organisation of parents, family, friends and staff and our role is to encourage closer links between home and school. The PTFA is best known for its fundraising work, but we organise fun and beneficial social functions to help families feel part of the school too. Fundraising events provide an opportunity for parents, staff and pupils to get together.

How is the PTFA organised?

At our school, all parents/carers and staff are automatically members of the PTFA. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) takes place in October, near the start of each school year and at this meeting a committee is elected to run the PTFA for the year. The committee consists of a chair, a vice-chair, and a treasurer.

Other parents/carers then volunteer to be ‘class reps’ and they pass information from the PTFA committee to the other parents/carers in their child’s class.

How can you be involved in our PTFA?

There are many different ways you can help within our PTFA, whether you have lots of time to offer or just a little. If you can’t commit to a ‘big job’, look for things you can do less frequently e.g. running a stall at an event or baking cakes.

Please also always support the PTFA events by simply turning up and having fun!

How is money raised?

The PTFA raise money by holding a variety of events throughout the school year. The range of past events have included: an autumn disco, a Christmas fayre, the Easter bingo, a summer family fun day, various cake and ice lolly sales and many other fun activities for families to take part in.

The PTFA are always looking for new fundraising ideas so please do get involved!

How is the money spent?

Funds raised by the PTFA are intended to provide ‘extras’ not already provided by the school’s main income – often ‘fun things’ that make learning more interesting and exciting. As well as these extras, the PTFA contributes to extra-curricular activities, event/sport transport hire, theatre events, playground equipment, with larger two to three year projects to enhance the school for all pupils.

Over the past few years we have been extremely successful with our fundraising, enabling us to fund many exciting projects and initiatives within Swimbridge School for all of our children.

We have funded the refurbishment of the school library, which has benefited the whole school. It is now a welcoming, colourful space, where children can learn, read and relax whilst enjoying the world of reading.

Funding is also provided for transport during PE sessions, whole school activity visits, such as local theatre company productions, and wild, exotic animal days. We are currently helping to part fund the ICT upgrade across the whole school.
