The collective worship plan unites many threads such as school values, British Values, learning behaviours, Protected Characteristics, charity events, Local and Global charity and community focus. As a Church of England school our daily act of Collective Worship is a special time that brings together members of the school community. Our pupils take an active role in our worship. The children are very independent when undertaking this responsibility. Worship is led by teachers, children and visitors. Groups of children are encouraged to prepare, lead and evaluate worship based on one of our themes. These opportunities allow them to gain valuable leadership experience and extend their ability to think and reflect on a wide range of global issues. Our worship is further enhanced by visits from our local incumbent. The children are further challenged to think, ask questions and share their views about the world around them.
The ethos behind all of our worship is to be: Inclusive Invitational and Inspiring
Inclusive – we are inclusive to our whole school community no matter what faith. We plan moments for discussion allowing children to bring their own experiences to worship.
Invitational - Parents, pupils and adults can expect to encounter worship that is consistently invitational. Pupils and adults should always only be invited to pray if they wish to do so and should be invited to pray in their own way.
Inspiring - should enable pupils and adults to ask big questions about who we are and why we do what we do. It should motivate pupils and adults into action, into thinking differently, and into reflecting on their and the wider community’s behaviour and actions.
The Structure of Collective Worship throughout the week is shown below:
Collective Worship Area
In each class is a collective worship corner which is a special space designed to support the school’s Christian ethos and spiritual life. It provides a quiet, reflective area where pupils can pause, pray, or think about important school values. The corner often links to the school’s current worship theme or Bible stories, helping children explore faith and worldviews in a personal and meaningful way.
Flourish Book
In each classroom, we have a special book called the Flourish Book in our Collective Worship corner. This book is for everyone to use. When we talk about Big Questions in class, you can write or draw your own thoughts, questions, and wonderings inside it. It might be something that makes you say “wow!”, something that makes you curious, or even something you’re not sure about yet. There are no right or wrong answers-it’s a place to share ideas, notice special moments, and record what you’re thinking or feeling. By using the Flourish Book, we can see how our ideas grow and change over time, just like we do.
