SEND
Special Educational Needs & Disability
Intent
At Swimbridge C of E, our intention for Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) is to ensure that all children receive a high-quality and ambitious education regardless of need or disability. We believe that it is vital that our pupils are equipped with the tools needed to become independent, inquisitive learners both in and out of the classroom.
Through our high quality planning, teaching and provision we:
Pride ourselves on early identification and intervention for SEND to ensure that progress and opportunities are maximized.
Ensure that all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum which is modelled and scaffolded to enable children to understand the relevance and purpose of learning.
Provide an accessible learning environment which is tailored to the individual needs of all pupils.
Develop children’s independence and life skills
Use a child-centred 'Assess, Plan, Do, Review' approach, to regularly monitor the progress of children with SEND
Provide good quality and relevant training for all staff members supporting children with SEND
Work in partnership with parents and carers
Work closely with external agencies and other professionals to hone and develop our provision for children with SEND
Implementation
At Swimbridge C of E, every teacher is a teacher of SEND. As such, inclusion is a thread that runs through every area of the school enhanced by collaboration between senior leaders, teachers, support staff, external agencies, parents and most importantly, the child.
All teachers are teachers of Special Educational Needs (SEN Code of Practice, 2014).
Every teacher is responsible and accountable for the progress and development of all pupils in their class, even where pupils access support from teaching assistants or specialist staff.
At Swimbridge C of E, pupils with SEND will:
Be included in all aspects of the school day
Be provided with quality first teaching, differentiated to their needs
Be respected and their contributions valued and acknowledged

New Devon SEND Strategy 2021-2024
Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the opportunity to thrive. Some just need a little extra help or special support to achieve their potential.
Devon's SEND Local Offer and strategy has been produced in collaboration with families and set out how we will help improve outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families.
These priorities make up our SEND Local Offer, which includes the education, health and social care services and support for children and young people (0-25) with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Under the SEND Code of Practice 2014, schools are required to publish an Annual SEN Information Report. This is available to download in the Useful Links and Guidance below.
